Low Countries in Light and Shadow
Great travel photography isn't made in a single pass — it's earned through patience and presence. Spending multiple days each in Antwerp, Ghent, Amsterdam, Edam, and Haarlem, I had the opportunity to do what most appeals to me regarding my travel photography: scout first, then return when the light was right.
The result is a tightly edited portfolio of black-and-white images drawn from over 700 frames captured across this extraordinary region. Working in monochrome strips away the distraction of colour and puts full emphasis on form, texture, geometry, and atmosphere — the qualities that define these cities' centuries-old character.
From the baroque grandeur of Antwerp's streets to Ghent's canal-side facades, the blue -hour reflections of Amsterdam's waterways, the quiet intimacy of Edam's historic core, and the dappled light of Haarlem's lanes — each image in this collection was made at the moment the scene revealed its best self.
