Building on the Bow

About the Exhibition

The exhibition “Building on the Bow, A Retrospective” showcased thirteen large-scale images at Christene Klassen Gallery of selected images from the acclaimed book "Building on the Bow". The images were produced by Royce Howland Studios as A1+ large format, carbon prints on handmade Japanese Washi paper. The original project, a collaboration between photographer Steve Speer and the Building Owners and Managers of Alberta (BOMA), visually documented the architectural evolution of Calgary’s historic commercial core—situated along the iconic Bow River.

This exhibition was a hugely successful event in February during the 2026 Exposure Photography Festival. Offering a rare opportunity to reflect on the development of Calgary’s commercial and retail space through Steve’s thoughtful and artistic lens this exhibition offered the opportunity to re-visit several of the images that were part of the original book project.

CKG Group Show

Every July, Christine Klassen Gallery opens its doors to one of the most anticipated events on the local art calendar — CHROMA, the gallery's annual summer group show. Vibrant in both name and spirit, CHROMA brings together a diverse roster of artists working across a range of disciplines, from painting and photography to sculpture and mixed media. The result is a dynamic, layered exhibition that captures the full breadth of contemporary artistic practice and offers visitors an immersive experience unlike any single-artist show.

Whether you're a seasoned collector or simply curious about the art world, CHROMA is the perfect entry point. The show's multi-artist format means there is something to connect with at every turn, and with works available across a wide range of price points, it's a genuine opportunity to bring something meaningful home. CHROMA is more than an exhibition — it's an invitation to explore, discover, and find the work that speaks to you.
